Hello and thank you for your interest in coaching!
As a competent skilled woman, you are used to working hard for both yourself and your organization. But you are likely craving more – more success at work, more recognition, more remuneration, more time, more control. If so, you are in the right place because coaching is a tool that can help you access more of what you desire!
But what is coaching? You ask…
Coaching is a process where you are able to unlock your full potential and maximize your performance. Through a process of asking provocative questions, a coach can assist you in setting goals, allowing for personal growth, and visioning success!
Coaching accepts that you have the strength to recognize your own hidden inner potential through directed self-reflection and focused thinking to create action plans with the aim of empowering performance. It is an individual experience created through dialogue with an unbiased thinking partner, your coach. The coach is a trained, impartial person skilled at creating a safe, non-judgemental space. As the client or coachee, you bring questions, dilemmas, problems, and goals to the conversation as well as a willingness to work through them. The coach listens and asks challenging questions which will allow you to view your situation differently and to come up with your own, individualized strategies for solving problems.
Why coaching is for you!
You can probably relate to the feeling of being stuck in a situation. Sometimes we feel stuck because challenging situations seem to lead to unfavourable solutions. The more we think about the options in front of us, the more we see only dead ends, solutions we don’t want, or places we don’t want to go. But you may also relate to times when you thought you could see all possibilities until someone said something that showed you a different option. Coaching can help you get unstuck by helping you to see those possibilities and to explore them and transfer these learnings into tangible results!
At times, coaching conversations are challenging because while coaching focuses on the attitudes and activities that have the greatest potential for success, sometimes this means letting go of deep seated beliefs and habits.
Why coaching works!
You might think it is possible to work through problems and challenges by journaling, reading articles, and listening to podcasts or talks. These activities can be very useful, however, it is difficult to ensure follow through on decisions and action steps that you make in isolation. Part of the value of coaching comes from having a coach who will hold you accountable to following through on the strategies and plans you have created through the coaching conversation. Coaching is focused on goal achievement rather than problem analysis because it encourages you to assume responsibility for your life through enhanced awareness, a shift in mindset, and follow through on your actions.
A shift in your actions, thinking, and habits will have a ripple effect on those around you. While coaching is an individual process, it can help create systemic processes that facilitate change within an organization. Coaching helps organizations create “people centred” work environments which have been shown to improve employee retention. It can assist companies in being responsive to changing environments and increase individual performance. It capitalizes on the inner resourcefulness of the individual to help the organization succeed. Coaching can be particularly helpful during complex challenges and within changing environments.
Where you should go from here!
You have the power to change yourself, your circumstances, and your organization! You have the skills you need to succeed and coaching is a tool that you can use to identify and reach your full potential! Isn’t it time you experienced the full power of coaching?
